Jesse Martinez

Professional Title:
VISION PREM Fellow
Bio:

Jesse Martinez is a second-year undergraduate student at the University of California, Merced, majoring in physics with an emphasis in astrophysics. His research interests focus on utilizing physics-informed neural networks to model microbial growth and nutrient flow in the San Joaquin Valley.

In his current work, he is combining chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and van der Waals stacking to fabricate tailored TMDC heterostructures of MoS₂ and/or WS₂. Through this process, he aims to isolate single-photon emitters and correlate their optical properties with the local atomic structure.

Outside of research, Jesse enjoys swimming, reading, and exploring chemistry in his free time.
