K-14 Free Lessons for Educators to use: “Quantum Kits”

Kit #1 – Includes 11 lessons to use individually or as themed unit. Chemistry | Engineering | Physics | Biology | Science Careers.

Customize for High School, Middle School, and Early College

Light, Energy, & more – theme increase food production yield using Quantum Technologies (UbiGro Tarp).

Description: A series of lessons figuring out how quantum dots in a tarp can improve plant growth. This series of lessons was developed in collaboration with our industrial partners at UbiGro. In the download you will find materials for 11 lessons, including an overview set of instructions. These lessons explore making, modeling, and maipulating light, lessons on quantum dots and nanoparticles. It also includes profiles on scientists.

Individual lessons from Kit #1 – each includes a lesson plan, a slide deck and list of materials and tools for running the interactive lesson.

Black Boxes

Description: Students predict what is inside of a sealed cardboard box using only their senses and the tools available to them; illustrates use (& limitations) of models to explain phenomena we can’t see, such as atoms. Excellent activity at any level to lay a foundation for appreciating models in science.

Manipulating Light

Description: Students explore different tools/matter that manipulate light and explain how the absorbed color of light differs from the object’s apparent color using different examples. Engaging activity that can be modified for any level in K14 and for multiple experiential approaches.

Modeling Light as a Wave

Description: Students create waves with a rope using more/less energy and observe how this changes the waves and develops a relationship between energy, wavelength, and frequency. Students relate EM spectrum wavelength, frequency, & energy to applications and impacts.

Making Light with LEDs

Description: Students use LEDs and cell batteries to produce different colors and then compare/contrast them and try to create new colors (including white light).
